Recently, I've decided to blow the dust off of my DJI FlameWheel 450, get it reprogrammed to my new DX9, and update its firmware. When I bought about a year and a half ago, it was a fun new path for my RC addiction. However, busy schedules and no one else to fly it with sort of put a damper on my enthusiasm. Now that there has been a big increase in multirotor flight (and the product offering to match), there are more folks getting interested in this aspect of the hobby. From the very cool and very stable micro quads from Heli-Max to a fancy new DJI Phantom 2 Vision - our flying club has seen an increase in these nimble flyers. With more folks checking them out, it's been great to bounce ideas off of folks and get new ideas on how to set stuff up. I know that I'm already planning my next build - an upgrade from a quadcopter to a larger hexacopter. I want to be able to haul around my GoPro on a gimbal, so it offsets any lumps and bumps in flight. I'm also looking forward to learning more about setting up my autopiot stabilization system. I have it figured out enough so that it works, but there are some fine tuning tweaks that I need to do.
All-in-all, it's a lot of fun and a great way to spend time in between flights of fixed-wing aircraft!
